Exhibition of Items Made from Waste Materials Began on Valentine’s Day
Shimla: At the Open Theatre located at Ridge Maidan, an exhibition showcasing items made from waste materials for Valentine’s Day was organized, where wooden lamps become the first choice of young people.
This exhibition was organized by the Himalayan Institute of Cultural & Heritage Studies, featuring products made from wood as well as other waste materials, specifically for
Valentine’s Day. Items made from pine, bamboo and banyan wood were displayed there. The wooden lamps were priced between ₹500 and ₹1400; napkin stands were sold for ₹400; cell phone stands were priced at ₹200.
One of the major attractions of the exhibition was a handmade cups, which is not only eco-friendly but also has a unique feature: when filled with water, it releases a sweet scent. Another highlight is a yellow-colored clay, which, when immersed in water, turns into a plant. Apart from these, handmade bags ranging from ₹100 to ₹300 and paper bottles for ₹150 were also available.
This initiative has been taken by the Himalayan Institute of Cultural & Heritage Studies to promote environmentally friendly products. The institute, since its establishment in 2019, has been teaching people how to create useful items from waste materials.
